The Face Behind the Beard

The magic began on a small farm in Central Kentucky when Steve donned a Santa suit
for the first time. Sweet Pea Farm asked him to consider being Santa for the day during
their Christmas Event.  Perhaps the suit was not magic, but the interactions that day
with the children and their families were all the magic he needed to pursue this holiday
tradition.
Nineteen grandchildren have fed the passion and joy to portray not only the jolly legend,
but also the Grandfather Santa—one whose presence and demeanor bring laughter,
ease, and conversation.
Steve’s desire is to encourage children to be comfortable in new situations, to express
their wishes, and to create a space for laughter AND a little bit of magic. Sometimes the
magic happens when he opens his Scottish sporran and pulls out his treasures to show
the children. Perhaps it happens when the children’s grown-ups look into their phone’s
camera and see an image that makes them smile.
Regardless, Popaw Santa hopes to bring a little Christmas magic to everyone he meets.
